The Lehigh Valley is blessed with dozens of charities, think tanks and other nonprofits that enrich the area’s quality of life. Each is required to file a 990 form annually in order to maintain its federal nonprofit tax status. These forms must be made available for public inspection.
Nonprofits are required to list up to 20 key employees who earn more than $150,000 and five employees who earn more than $100,000 who are not officers, directors or trustees or key employees. The most recent forms available are listed on websites such as guidestar.org. This transparency allows donors to see how well employees are compensated and compare one nonprofit to another.
To give some context to the size of the salaries and number of six-figure employees, we list the gross receipts received by the organization in that same tax year as well as the assets remaining at the end of the year.
