TikTok today announced that it is opening up a revamped Creator Fund, called “Creativity Program Beta,” to all eligible creators in the United States. The company initially began testing the new program with selected creators in February. TikTok says the new program is designed to generate higher revenue and create more real-world opportunities for creators.
To be eligible for the program, creators must have a US-based account, be at least 18 years old, and have at least 10,000 followers and 100,000 views in the past 30 days.
Once a creator enrolls in a new program, they will not be able to return to the Creator Fund. TikTok has not said whether the Creativity Program will completely replace the Creator Fund, but it is likely that TikTok will eliminate the Creator Fund once the Creativity Program launches more broadly and exits the beta phase. there's a possibility that.
TikTok says the rewards formula for the Creativity Program Beta is designed to provide higher average gross revenue for qualifying video views, but did not provide details about payments. Not yet. The company's current Creator Fund, launched in 2020 with $1 billion over three years, has been criticized by creators who are unhappy with low compensation, and has been viewed millions of times. Some say they've made a few bucks from their videos.
To earn money with this program, creators must create high-quality, original videos that are longer than one minute. For context, TikTok's Creator Fund does not require a video to be longer than one minute to be eligible for payment.
The program gives creators access to a modern dashboard with more insight into estimated earnings, video performance metrics and analytics, and video eligibility requirements.
“The beta version of our creativity program is in its early stages, and we are continually exploring ways to improve the experience for our creator community and the way we reward creators,” TikTok said in a blog post. “We look forward to hearing feedback from the community.”
The Creativity Program is a new addition to TikTok's suite of monetization tools, which includes LIVE subscriptions and TikTok Pulse. The company also has a monetization feature for tips and gifts.
The new program isn't the only recent launch on TikTok aimed at placating creators. In March, TikTok introduced a new feature called “Series” that allows eligible creators to post content behind a paywall.
The series allows eligible creators to post a collection of premium content behind a paywall and make it available for viewers to purchase for access. A series can contain up to 80 videos of up to 20 minutes each. Creators can choose the price for their series that they feel best reflects the value of their exclusive content. The series is currently available only to selected creators, and applications to join will open in the coming months.
