KALAMAZOO, MI — Western Michigan University Digital Marketing Student Alex Wojirak I spent the summer in sunny Los Angeles and took a big step towards my goal of creating professional content. This fourth year student, Howarth pursues her passion with the help of her college's business resources.
Wojdylak says he is excited about the world of digital marketing that lies ahead. “What I look forward to most is being able to constantly learn more and improve my skills,” he says. “Whether it's learning new software or improving your ability to speak to clients and colleagues in your field, there are plenty of opportunities in the world of digital marketing.”
This summer, Wojlak was able to see the digital marketing field first-hand through an internship with FOX Sports. He worked as a sports screening intern and had the opportunity to create different types of media. Wojdylak, who loved both sports and digital his video editing, was more than qualified for the job. During his time at FOX Sports, he gained experience producing a variety of content including short and long-form videos, match highlights, and unique thumbnails.
Prior to joining FOX Sports, I interned with the WMU Student Affairs marketing team for over a year. During his tenure, he managed the office's Instagram and his TikTok accounts, created graphics in Adobe Photoshop, and used Adobe Premiere Pro to create videos for the university's social media accounts. Did. His work at WMU helped him gain the skills he needed for an internship at FOX Sports, and ultimately led to him finding a place to do work he is passionate about.
Wojrak, who accomplished a lot during his internship this summer, shares how his education as a business student prepared him.
“My communication and networking skills have improved. Since coming to WMU, I have been involved in several projects that involve speaking in front of others and pushing myself outside of my comfort zone to improve myself. I’ve been a part of it,” he says. “With networking, the more people you talk to, the more your confidence level increases and the more you build new connections as you develop your skills.”
For Wojdylak, participating as a digital marketing student extends beyond the classroom. Using resources like the Zhang Career Center has changed his professional life, he says. “I entered university with a subpar resume, so I could have gained a little more experience and proofread more. Over time, I completed more courses and became more professional. The experience I gained and the feedback I received on my resume made it something I was proud of and a good representation of myself.”
During her time at WMU, Wodylak added that she had new experiences that helped her grow professionally and personally.
“When we are in challenging situations, that is when we grow. You never know if you’re going to go, so push yourself,” he says.
After graduation, Wojlak plans to continue working at FOX Sports. He hopes to move west and join the team full-time in Los Angeles, soaking up the sunshine and creating a compelling media presence.
