1. Market your business and attract new customers
“This is a great way to drive traffic to other channels, like your website, email list, or YouTube channel,” says Keira Jones (@), a Phoenix-based TikToker who also manages and advises brands on the platform. thekeirajones) says.
This is exactly how Orlando-based TikToker Connie Rietdyk (@conniegooglequeen) makes most of her cash. She worked for several years as a website design and search engine optimization consultant on the side, earning “enough to cover the extra costs.”
Rietdyk began offering tips for small businesses on these topics in TikTok posts. Starting with around 200 followers in May 2021, she now has over 21,000 followers, with several followers turning into paying clients.
2. Score Sponsorship
You may find it interesting that according to the 2022 TikTok Marketing Science Global Shopping Ad Products Study, 70% of TikTok users report that it is easy to use e-commerce on the social media platform. The same report also found that 57% of Gen Z weekly TikTok users said ads on the platform inspired them to discover new products and brands. People are ready to spend money on TikTok, and brands are often ready to pay content creators who can connect with those customers.
Let's say that most of your TikTok posts are about a specific topic, such as dog care. Dog food and toy brands may want to tap into the puppy-loving audience.
This process can work in several ways. For example, a company can send you a free product and, in exchange, ask you to mention it in one of your videos. You might agree, or you might ask the company to throw in some cash in addition to the freebies. You can also seek sponsorship by proactively reaching out to companies, especially if you already use and mention their products.
TikTok makes it easy for content creators to connect with brands through Creator Marketplace, a collaboration hub for closing paid and reward-based deals. Not sure how to adjust your deals? Jones makes most of her sponsorship money through her personal TikTok account, where she shares marketing tips. Brands began reaching out to Jones when she reached around 15,000 followers.

3. Tap on TikTok's “Creative Program Beta”
TikTok offers a monetization tool called Creativity Program Beta. This allows users to get paid for publishing long videos (1 minute or more) with high-quality content. This replaces the previous monetization program called Creator Fund.
You can participate in the program if you have at least 10,000 followers, have had at least 100,000 video views in the past 30 days, and meet several other qualifications, including being over 18 years old.
How much income can you expect? The answer is a little vague. TikTok says this Creativity Program Beta “You could potentially earn up to 20 times the amount previously offered by Creator Fund.”

4. Redeem your gift
Content creators using the TikTok Live feature can receive “gifts” from viewers who are 18 years or older. Viewers pay to send gifts, which appear as stickers or animations in creators' live sessions.
Gifts sent by viewers are part of TikTok's formula of giving creators “diamonds.” According to TikTok, “Creators can redeem these diamonds for money and transfer that money to their connected accounts.”
Are you doing a live stream? no worries. TikTok also awards diamonds for short videos. Viewers can leave gifts in the comments section.
More diamonds means more cash, but only if you redeem them. You can track your Diamond earnings and see their potential monetary value in your TikTok account balance.
5. Sell on TikTok Shop
TikTok shopwill launch in September 2023 and allow creators and businesses to sell directly to their viewers via livestreams, shoppable videos, and by displaying their products in the in-app shop and central marketplace within TikTok. We will support you.
You will need to sign up and fill out an application on the TikTok site's Seller Center and, if approved, link your account. TikTok says it will collect a portion of sales as a commission, but did not disclose the amount. The company says the rates are currently being improved in “initial testing in the United States.”

If you use a personal TikTok account, you can charge for premium content by putting your video collection or series behind a paywall and charging your viewers for access. Business or political accounts cannot use this feature.

7. Collect hints from your audience
If your personal account has at least 100,000 followers, your viewers can show their appreciation and support through the Tips feature. Viewers can choose preset amounts of $5, $10, or $15, or create a custom tip.

Making money on TikTok can be easier by sticking to a defined topic rather than posting a wide range of content. So start by “deciding where you want to grow,” says Jones. “The more niche you are, the more likely you are to be contacted.”
In contrast, a typical lifestyle influencer's audience may have broader interests that are harder to define, making them less attractive to sponsors, she says.
When it comes to sponsorship, the number of followers can be just as important as having a clearly defined topic. Research your area of expertise and engage with your community to build momentum.
Let's say you create jewelry and want to use TikTok to send viewers to your site. Etsy page. Find and follow TikTokers whose girlfriends are interested in jewelry, and engage in their posts. TikTok may feed more content from similar accounts. That way, once you start posting, your content is more likely to be seen by the exact audience you want: people who love jewelry.
Rietdyk emphasizes the importance of building a community and posting relevant content before selling products. So I might post how-to videos and advice first. “We don’t want to advertise to a cold audience,” she says. “Before you start asking someone for money, give them a lot of value for free.”

When it comes to sponsored content, Jones says to only promote products that you “really use and love.” She says she refuses to partner with products that don't check these boxes.
Jones added that if you promote too many products, “your audience will get frustrated and feel like they're being taken advantage of.”
Serve your audience and set small goals
“If your only purpose for starting TikTok is to make money, you're probably not going to be successful,” Jones says. Serving your audience should be your top priority. “That’s when people are drawn to you and want to follow you,” she says.
Rietdyk recommends setting small, achievable goals, such as a certain amount of sales or income. “Let's celebrate the victory,” he added.
Use multiple strategies
No single strategy is likely to achieve record profits. But with practice using multiple tools, from getting sponsorships to selling on his TikTok shop, you can carve out a profitable platform for yourself.
Aim for a consistent experience with your content, including appearance and frequency of posting. According to TikTok, Cohesion “allows people to become familiar with your brand, know what to expect, and start anticipating your specific style of videos.”
