The North Carolina Education Lottery reported a six-figure win by a Lenoir County man.
Lorenzo Williams of Kinston said he has long dreamed of buying a home for his family, and now he can do it after winning a $100,000 lottery prize.
“We've been trying to buy a house for about three years,” he said. “This thing here will be a big help in getting us home.”
Williams won the big prize in the Season-End Extravaganza Lucke Rewards drawing on January 3, 2024. The drawing received more than 4.2 million entries and awarded $100,000 in prizes to three North Carolina lottery players.
When he learned that he had won, he could not contain his excitement. “I was so excited that I got a little numb,” he recalls.
Williams said he was surprised but not shocked by the win.
“I always had a hunch that one day I would win the lottery,” he admitted.
He arrived at lottery headquarters to claim his winnings and took home $71,500 after making the necessary federal and state tax withholdings.
“I'm just happy and grateful,” Williams said. “It feels really good.”
