100 yen store items and Utah winter life hacks that will save your life!
Driving with ice or snow on your car is dangerous. We all think we're going to be okay, but that results in many accidents and fatalities on our roads here in Utah each year. Make sure you have the tools to completely remove ice and snow from your car before driving. A long scraper with a brush is available at many of his 100 yen stores. It's worth being prepared for snow and ice, but if you don't, you'll get frustrated and rush to avoid being late, which can only lead to disaster.
Most people know to have a scraper, use the scraper to warm up the car for a few minutes before leaving, and have a blanket or two in the car. But there are things you can do and things you can buy at the dollar store to stay safe and feel well prepared.
Pack drinks and food in your car. You never know when you'll need it. Try to pack things that will last a little longer without getting damaged. (I have seen all of these products at 100 yen shops.)
Bring an extra hat, gloves, and large garbage bag to protect yourself from rain, snow, etc. Make sure you have a smoke bomb and a blinking flashlight with batteries. If you slip off the road, have an emergency, or are stranded out of gas, you'll see light faster than you can scream or honk. Having these simple, inexpensive items on hand can save your life.
Here are some other items you may not have thought of stocking up on at the dollar store.
1. Shaving cream
To defog your car windows, apply a thin layer of inexpensive shaving cream to the inside of the window and wipe it clean. This contains the same ingredients as anti-fog agents. This simple trick will keep your windows clean and prevent them from fogging up during your car ride.
2. Hand sanitizer
This should be on your keychain or in place of your gas cap. Apply a small amount of hand sanitizer to your keys to prevent car locks from freezing and keys from sticking in cold temperatures. The alcohol in the sanitizer will help melt the ice inside the lock. Additionally, spraying your locks with his WD-40 is an effective means to prevent ice buildup and ensure smooth functioning during the cold season. Protect your keys and locks with these simple solutions.
3. Large tube socks
If you're stuck in the snow and your nice shoes don't provide enough traction, use old socks. Can be stored in the trunk or glove box. If you need to, simply grab a sock and place it over your shoes for added traction and easier pushing.
4. Kitten Litter
There are several uses here. Using cat litter can increase traction in winter weather, especially on ice. Purchasing a 20-pound bag will reduce weight on your vehicle and improve traction. It can also be used to absorb odors! Simply fill one of the socks already in your car with trash and place it near the smelly area. After cleaning up any dirt or spills, leave the kitty litter sock overnight and the odor should go away.
Bonus! Use car floor mats to unstuck and get out of the snow.
Floor mats are great to use under your tires when you need more traction to get out of a snowbank. You can also use cat litter and salt to increase traction and melt ice.
It's never fun having to deal with winter weather. Be prepared and stay safe!
Southern Utah's population is exploding, and if you've been to Costco recently, you know it's crazy here. It's as crazy as ever, I could go there any time. I went on a Wednesday at 2pm and couldn't believe how many people weren't working during the day.
I usually go just before lunch, but it gets crowded quickly, so I thought it would be better to go after everyone else had finished their lunch break. no. I also tried it on a Tuesday morning right when they opened. Oh my god, the parking lot there was packed with people waiting to get in, like it was Black Friday in the 90s.
Is there someone waiting for the door to open????
I'm not sure how the big box stores decide whether they're ready to support one area in another, but the time is now.
Our radio station, Cat Country Utah, posed the question on social media: “What should we get next in Southern Utah? People can vote for one of three things.”
Costco:
Sam's Club:
Winco:
Sam's Club won the vote with over 180 votes. I never expected it to work. Below are some of the messages sent and their reasons.
Rob G- I want a cedar Costco, but I don't think it will be possible for a while (lol)
Samantha D- I've been to Winco, Sam's Club, and Costco. And they're all great. But no.
If I had to choose, I'd say Sam's Club. Basically EXTRA FANCY Costco!!
I've been to Sam's Club in Bentonville, AR and it was great! (That's Walmart and Sams headquarters).
These are test markets for Walmart and Sam's.
Leah – When I lived in Ogden a year ago, there was a WinCo Costco and a Sam's Club. I had a Sam's Club membership. Costco Sam's Club is great. There's something different about Costco. WinCo is great. Both would be great as the price is also great. I don't think we need another Costco here.
All I know is that Costco is so busy every day that the southern part of the state needs something else. The only time I didn't feel claustrophobic recently was when he was 8:15 in the evening and I just went to pick up a few items and left right away. So next time I'll try 8pm and see if that works.
