Fine Cut, a major Korean sales company, has acquired international sales rights to the action-comedy film “Boss.'' The title will be released at Filmart in Hong Kong next week.
Directed by Ra Hee-chan (Going by the Book, Mr. Idol), the film follows gang members caught up in fierce competition. They not only strive for supremacy within their clan, but also strive to realize their dreams in everyday life.
“Boss” stars Cho Woo-jin (Netflix series “Narco Saints,” “Inside Men”) as a man who wants to run his family's Chinese restaurant. Jung Kyung Ho (“Men of Plastic'') believes that it is his destiny to become a tango dancer. Park Ji-hwan (The Roundup movie series) wants to be the boss the most out of all the members, but no one wants him.
The film will be produced by Hive Media Corp., which also produced the box office hit “12.12: The Day” at the end of 2023, which attracted more than 13 million viewers.
Finecut will be showing the first footage of new titles at the FilMart booth.
The company's Hong Kong sales roster also includes Hong Sang-soo and French muse Isabelle Huppert's latest minimal filmmaking effort, “The Traveler's Needs,'' which won the Silver Bear at last month's Berlin Film Festival.
Finecut's upcoming titles include the previously announced horror film “Noise,” about a woman haunted by the sounds of her sister's disappearance. “The Exorcism Chronicles: The Beginning” is a 3D occult animation depicting the first adventures of her team of four who are given special powers. Both films are currently in post-production.
Among the completed titles are “Victory,'' a heartwarming story of high school cheerleading, and the action comedy “The Desperate Chase.'' And then there's “A Normal Family,'' directed by veteran director Heo Jin-ho, which received rave reviews last year.
