Irwin, Tennessee — Unicoi County's new grant program aims to give businesses an edge. This subsidy is available to any business that has a storefront.
“There's no matching involved. If you make a good case, the grants will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis to those who meet the appropriate criteria,” said Economic Development Director Austin Finch.
The grant from the Unicoi County Economic Development Commission is intended to help businesses with marketing. Finch said some companies may have great products or services but just need a little help getting the word out.
“If we can invest directly, those companies can expand their marketing efforts and grow their business. And once they are established and their reputation spreads, in the long run they can become more Maybe we can be successful,” Finch said. .
Grants are up to $2,500, enough for at least five businesses. It is up to businesses to present ideas on how to use it.
The Union Street Art Gallery wants to renovate the mural at its intersection with Nolichucky Street. They think it will boost business and the town.
“I've seen cars parked sideways across from Noli Chucky and people coming to pick up their new cars and the murals behind them. That's why we get a lot of people,” said gallery co-owner Vincent. Borden said.
Finch said the board intends to help companies connect with the right talent to make their ideas a reality.
“We're happy to provide advice, support, and connect with stakeholders who can take the initiative forward, but if they have a plan, we'll just support them.” said.
