Some marketing communication experts on Saturday emphasized the importance of digital marketing in empowering women, combating unemployment and promoting independence.
Experts said Nigerian women should take advantage of the opportunity to sell products in the digital space, empower themselves and achieve self-actualization.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that both spoke at a conference themed “Women for Digital Conference 2024” held at the Victoria Island Civic Center in Lagos.
It was organized by the Digital Marketing Skills Institute (DMSI) to educate women on accessing the digital space.
At this event, women learned the skills needed to manage their space, content development, and the emotions of their target audience and clients to maintain their loyalty.
The South-West Regional Coordinator of the Federal Ministry of Labor and Employment, Nonie Badejo, said the COVID-19 lockdown period had exposed a goldmine in the digital space.
Ms. Badejo encouraged women to explore the digital space by adding value and profiting from the products and services of the informal sector.
The department said it would continue to work with organizations to ensure the public was informed of what was expected of them in terms of labor law, safety, risk assessment and mental health.
Badejo said the aim is also to encourage people to digitally upscale to meet global demands and practices.
She said many women earn income from home and the ministry needs to look at ways to extend digital marketing variations to rural areas to strengthen participation.
Guest speaker Maira Abashikala also spoke at the event and said that digital marketing is full of opportunities.
Abashikala, Direct Marketing Lead at 9 Payment Service Bank, noted that among the no fewer than 36 million Nigerian social media users, the stereotypes that hinder women in traditional workplaces do not exist.
The expert explained that digital marketing is the new normal and, if invested, has the potential to free women from addiction and become breadwinners.
According to her, Nigerian women have gained new prospects for earning a living by moving from the traditional marketing mix to the new normal.
“Hone your skills, get a workstation, build your brand, export to the world and make a good living,” she said.
Keynote speaker and Airtel Brand and Communications Manager, Ms. Ayola Femi Adebayo, said women should break social barriers and move forward in life while working from the comfort of their homes.
Adebayo's speech focused on women's participation in the digital economy, appealing to the public to develop local products to global standards so that they can garner support around the world.
“Platforms like Facebook, YouTube, Instagram and Whatsapp should be global vehicles for delivering goods and services to the world.
“Here are some practical strategies to start a career in the digital space: your skills, content development are key, and creativity, including your curiosity to stay ahead of others in your chosen field.
“What is needed to remain relevant in this sector is the ability to persuade target audiences and clients at every critical point of the added value that a product or service can provide,” she said.
In her presentation at the event, co-keynote speaker Deora Alomiura, executive director of marketing and partnerships at Heller Global, urged people to think locally and act globally for growth. I urged.
Alomiura urged people to look around, identify products and services that are needed in other climates, add value to them and sell them.
She encouraged people to attend seminars that educate them on the basics of their area of interest in the digital marketing field.
She pointed out that if more women participate in the ever-expanding digital marketing economy, people will be gainfully engaged, thereby reducing unemployment in society. (NAN)
