High-paid employees in Queens earned six-figure salaries last year, with the highest-paid employee receiving compensation of $500,000.
The Ontario Sunshine List, released March 28, ranks all Queen's University employees with salaries of $100,000 or more in 2023, representing an average increase of 8.5 per cent across the university. Faculty across the Queen's University Faculty Association (QUFA) have negotiated a 3% salary increase for all members starting in 2023.
According to the list, 1,415 employees achieved the six-figure threshold, with an average salary of $172,344.

5. Jim Hamilton, Director (Postgraduate Diploma in Business). $401,884
Hamilton, in fifth place, earned $401,884 in 2023, an increase of almost 14% from 2022. Hamilton is a lecturer at the Smith School of Business, where he teaches marketing strategy and sales.
Management of undergraduate and graduate students.
Hamilton is the highest-paid Queen's lecturer in history.Smith is $33,477 behind Hamilton.
Professor Shai Dubey of the School of Business is the second highest paid lecturer.
4. Patrick Dean, Principal. $418,577
Queen's official head of school, Principal Dean, did not receive a pay rise. After taking the position in 2019 and seeing his salary increase by 100% in 2020, Dean's salary plateaued at $418,577.
Dean's Western counterpart Alan Shepard came in fourth place, earning $484,000 in 2023.

3. Wanda Costen, Dean (Smith School of Business); $479,578
Kosten, dean of Queen's Business School, ranked third in income last year and second among deans. Kosten received a 19.9% raise starting in 2022.
2. Elspeth Murray, Director, Center for Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Social Impact. $512,348
Second place went to Murray, founder and director of the Center at the Smith School of Business.
Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Social Impact (CEISI). CEISI was founded this year to combine his two centers in Smith.
Previously, Mr. Murray served as Associate Dean (MBA and Master's Programs) at Smith College, which was ranked No. 1 in Canada in the Financial Times Global MBA Rankings.
1. Jane Philpott, Dean (Faculty of Health Sciences). $546,053
Dean Philpott topped the chart as Queen's highest earner, receiving a salary of $546,053 from the university. Philpott, who came to Queens in 2020, is consistently among the top five highest-paid employees in Queens.
Mr. Philpott has a background in federal politics, is a physician, and is the CEO of the Southeastern Academic Medical Organization of Ontario (SEAMO).
