Raquel Welch, 24, will graduate from the Purdue University Northwest (PNW) College of Business with a Bachelor of Science in Marketing and a minor in Business Analytics.
Welch originally wanted to study music, but felt it might not be a realistic career path, so he considered studying other fields. She fell in love with the introductory marketing course, and she took the consumer behavior course and fell in love with the field.
The Hammond native was instrumental in revitalizing the Marketing Club and served as the organization's president. The club was nominated for the “Comeback Kid” Student Organization Award at the annual President's Ball. Welch will compete in the Spring 2024 Digital Her Marketing Competition sponsored by the PNW College of Business, an international digital girlfriend marketing competition for college students, and was selected from among hundreds of entries. She placed 25th. Additionally, Welch is a campus ambassador, a member of the College of Business Student Advisory Council, and a member of Alpha Psi Lambda, a co-ed fraternity that believes in contributing to the campus community while promoting Latinx culture. He also served as internal vice chairman.
Welch is seeking a position in the marketing field, primarily digital marketing and media planning. In the future, she hopes to return to academia and teach business classes.
What do you like most about the PNW?
“Honestly, I loved everything about it. I loved the campus and the interaction with people. It gave me connections with my classmates, professors, and faculty. I could always go to anyone and ask for help, guidance, and support. I feel like I can do it, and I usually get it.”
How do you think your involvement in campus organizations and activities helped determine your success at PNW?
“I believe my involvement has helped me become a leader and a good team player. You can also see that I can handle multiple projects and am very good at time management. His time management skills are on point and his leadership skills are really well developed.”
Don't be afraid of failure, and even if you fail, pick yourself up and try again.
Did you have any significant experiences while attending PNW?
“That's when I finally stepped into my first 400-level marketing course, Consumer Behavior. And by getting real data about what they want and what they need, I realized that maybe I could make this into a job someday. That's what we did for classes. It was a consulting project, but it was huge and so much fun that it blew my mind!”
What advice would you give to prospective students considering admission to PNW?
“Don't be afraid to get involved. Speak up. Don't be afraid to fail, and if you fail, pick yourself up and try again.”
Is there anyone in the PNW who has inspired or encouraged you?
Associate Professor, Department of Marketing
Clinical Professor of Marketing and Executive Director of Graduate and External Programs
“Both of them were very passionate about what they taught. Dr. Tuledi always nurtured the can-do spirit that I have and supported me throughout this school year. Professor Hanson taught me about marketing in a fun way. I learned a lot.”
