Threads has officially introduced the ability to control who can cite your posts within the app, giving you even more control over your in-app experience.
As you can see in this example, the options menu (the three-dot menu at the top right) for each thread post lists the new[返信と引用ができるユーザー]option has been added. Tap it to choose who can quote your post.[誰でも],[フォローしているプロフィール],[メンションされたユーザーのみ]You can restrict it from three options:
This is a step further than X (formerly Twitter), where users can limit who can reply to them but not who can quote them. This could be a strong deterrent to negativity or “dunk posts” within the app, putting more control in each user's hands.
Announcing the update towards the end of last week, Threads head Adam Mosseri said:
“We hope this will make Threads a more positive place and give people more control over their experience.”
Some users have had access to an early version of this feature for a few weeks now, so it might not be entirely new to you, but it's now available to everyone, further expanding the variety of control options that Threads has built into its UI.
This also includes:
These tools give users more control over their in-app experience, and as social media users become more familiar with their different options in this area, it's good to see the Threads team prioritizing these tools and protecting users in a variety of ways.
Indeed, over time, social media conversations have increasingly shifted from public forums to private chats as people seek to escape the anxiety and scrutiny that can come with the main feed, so being able to control who can respond to your posts is an important consideration, and as Mosseri points out, it fits into Meta's broader mission of making threads a more positive experience.
It's another good step, and one that could eventually make Threads the conversation app of choice as X tries to lean more into divisive debate.
