Ricky Strauss is stepping down from his role as head of marketing for Apple TV+ after leading the Apple TV+ division for nearly a year and a half. An Apple spokesperson confirmed that Strauss is resigning from his Culver City-based position.
Another person familiar with Mr. Strauss' movements suggested that he is considering pursuing other creative endeavors. It is unclear whether the currently vacant positions will be filled and, if so, who will replace them.
Hired in January 2023, Strauss' responsibilities included overseeing marketing campaigns, advertising and promotions for Apple TV+ programming, reporting to Thor Milchen, Apple's vice president of marketing communications.
Prior to joining the tech giant, Strauss spent nearly a decade at Disney, where he held the role of president of content and marketing for Disney+ and helped steer the streaming service's launch in 2019. He also served as president of programming for Disney+. Hulu and Disney+. Prior to these roles, Strauss served as president of marketing for Walt Disney Studios, where she led advertising strategy for theatrical films, the relaunched Star Wars franchise, Marvel Cinematic Universe films, and more. He has worked on animated hits such as “The Incredibles 2'' and “Moana.'' ”
Before working at Disney, Strauss served as president of the now-defunct Participant Media for seven years, during which time the company focused on social justice projects such as “The Help'' and “An Inconvenient Truth.'' The campaign produced an Oscar-winning film. After Banner was shut down last month, dozens of actors and directors signed an open letter in response, urging the industry to continue to make a difference through film and television like the defunct company did.
