Skybound Entertainment, creator of “The Walking Dead” series, has hired Activision Blizzard veteran Caleb Ruel as vice president of marketing for its in-house video game studio.
During his time at Activision Blizzard, Ruel played a key role in the record-breaking launch of Diablo IV. Ruel led the game's high-profile marketing efforts, which featured collaborations with Halsey, his SUGA from BTS, and Megan Fox.
Prior to joining Activision Blizzard, he served as Head of U.S. Marketing at Spotify from 2017 to 2021.
Ruel joins the company, which was founded by Robert Kirkman and David Alpert, and has added staff including Greg Slack as CFO and Chris Paulson (an Activision Blizzard veteran) as executive vice president and general manager of game publishing. This will be Skybound Entertainments' seventh major executive hire in 2024. VP of Products at Activision Blizzard).
This growth has led to many gaming companies cutting staff, with widespread layoffs and studio closures at Microsoft's Xbox and Activision Blizzard, Sony's PlayStation, EA, Take-Two Interactive, Epic Games, and Riot Games. This is happening while it is having an impact on things like this.
“I have always loved working with Caleb and am excited to have him join Skybound,” he said. “Caleb's experience building great marketing teams in gaming, music streaming, and consumer retail will help accelerate Skybound's publishing capabilities. We believe that successful games are defined by their community of players. , we share the vision that great marketing is about building that community, and Caleb is building a world-class marketing team at Skybound Games to help bring that vision to life.”
