Indican Entertainment International, the Toronto-based sales company led by veteran film producer and distribution executive Avi Federgreen, has announced the Cannes Film Market calendar.
Chief among them is “She Was Here,'' a documentary that delves into the life of beloved child actress Heather O'Rourke, best known for her role in “Poltergeist'' and for her line “They are here.'' O'Rourke's life was tragically cut short at the age of 12. Director Nick Bailey directed O'Rourke's untold story, featuring interviews with Poltergeist co-stars Craig T. Nelson and JoBeth Williams, as well as Heather's mother and sister. Explore the story. This documentary is produced by Brian Pockras, Rhys Eveneshen, and Federgreen.
Wild Goat Surf is a 2003 Canadian coming-of-age drama set in Penticton, British Columbia, and follows the adventures of 13-year-old Real “Goat” Anderson and his mother Jane as they navigate a summer of struggle and resilience. . . Gort, who lives in his RV park on Skaha Lake, dreams of surfing, even though he is hundreds of miles from the ocean. The film aims to provide an empowering story for women while highlighting the issue of child poverty in British Columbia. Produced by Warren Slaticki, written, directed and produced by Caitlin Sponheimer, the cast includes Dillon Burnside (Pose), Shaelyn Martin and Leandro Guedes.
“Hailey Rose” is a Canadian queer comedy about 20-something Hailey, who returns to her East Coast hometown for the first time in 10 years after receiving an emergency phone call from her sister. Faced with his job loss and the prospect of moving in with his partner, Hayley reveals a surprising truth about his family, friends, and himself. Written and directed by Sandy Somers, the film explores themes of love, acceptance, and self-discovery against the backdrop of the Nova Scotia coast. Produced by Scott Repp, Pablo Salzman, Stephen Finney, Jordan Ashley Wool, and starring Kari Matchett (The Night Agent), M Hayne (Fargo), Caitlin Medrek (Fargo), “Haley Rose” (“Polar”) starring Josh Crudas.
The slate also includes the Finnish post-apocalyptic thriller “Gravedigger” from Frozen Flame Pictures Ltd. Set in a world ravaged by disease and acid rain, the film follows a mute gravedigger who joins forces with his fellow survivors to avenge the evil deaths of their colleagues. Cannibal.
