In the modern real estate market, $1 million doesn't go very far.
But if you look a little further out of town, you might find some great hotels like the Commercial Hotel Rappville.
An iconic and historic pub with a six-figure price tag, this northern NSW pub has survived fires, floods and COVID-19.

Now the owners are hoping to pass the hotel's traditions on to a new generation of publican.
“We feel like it's time to sell and we want to pursue other pursuits, whether that be farming, art work or some of the other things we've been doing,” owner Lisa Stewart said.
“It's a fantastic, beautiful country pub and we'd love to sell it to someone who shares our vision and keep it that way.”
Current Affairs We spoke to Mr Stewart after the floods that hit the area in 2022 saw the pub close for the first time in 110 years.
“It was really hard to go through the flooding and looking back, it wasn't as badly hit as Lismore and other northern towns but it was really devastating,” she said. Current Affairs.
“We had just put in a new kitchen, renovated everything and three months later we had knee-deep water and a snake coming into the pub.
“It was really scary, but the whole community came together. [and] The pub has reopened.”

Mr Stewart said a wedding booking just two weeks after the flooding motivated the hotel to move forward with the restoration work.
“I promised couples, no, we're going to keep these doors open and we're going to have weddings for you,” Stewart said.
“It motivated us, even though many of us were emotionally drained at the time.”
Before the floods, the area experienced deadly fires in 2019.
“The fire was devastating and when I bought the pub and visited there, there was still ash and the trees were black, but this pub just shone.
“This pub seems to have left a mark on everyone's hearts… it has great potential to do so much more for this community.”
“Keeping it alive and keeping it going…whatever owner takes over from us, we hope they have the same vision.”
