Owensboro photographer and digital marketer Kate Higdon can now add accomplished author to her list of successes: She wrote and published the best-selling book “Dear Female Digital Entrepreneur” alongside 27 other women.
The book is structured in an A to Z format and showcases how women use their diverse skill sets to solve each other's challenges, creating a ripple effect of empowerment.
In this chapter, Higdon shares ways to develop your social media presence.
“Most people just want to focus on their content, their product or their service, but if you're not constantly focused on growing your audience, you might not have anyone to present to and you might end up speaking to the wrong people,” she said.
Higdon said he began entering the digital space in 2020 when the world shut down, dramatically impacting his business and requiring a way to get in front of people and generate new revenue streams.
“I had no idea what I was doing, but I did it anyway. I like to say, 'I messed up,'” she says. “I made a lot of mistakes and learned a lot. I started with just over 2,000 friends on Facebook and Instagram and have grown to over 750,000 followers across all platforms.”
Higdon said social selling is about authenticity, understanding your audience, credibility and trust.
She said key elements of her chapter discuss things like knowing who you're speaking to, creating content that adds value to people's lives and having a solid posting strategy that adds value, builds trust and creates a community.
“This book was created by women who have been successful in this field and want to support other women who are looking for support,” she said. “It's a book for women who want to learn how to jump into the online world and create new streams of income, or for women who are already using digital marketing and want to learn new skills to get closer to their goals.”
Higdon said he wasn't surprised the book made it to No. 1 because 27 online marketers contributed to the effort.
“They are marketing gurus and really practice what they preach,” she said, “and it's been an honor to work with them and learn from them.”
The book is currently only available on Amazon, but an audio version will be released soon.
“I am so excited and honored to be a part of this collaboration,” she said. “It has inspired me to my next project: a low-carb cookbook with a mindset journal. I have learned so much in my health and wellness journey over the past eight years, and it only makes sense to share that with others who may be struggling like I once did.”
