Previous research has found that AI can be used to increase creativity, but it can also lead to less original content. However, many companies are still using AI for creative purposes. According to a report by Harvard Business Review Analytic Services and Canva, 42% of business leaders believe generative AI can improve their organization's creativity process.
In a survey of more than 500 business leaders, six in 10 respondents said that AI saves time and allows employees to tackle tasks that require more human creativity. Nearly 50% of respondents said that AI can speed up the ideation process, and 48% believe that AI can help create better content with minimal human intervention.
The survey divided organizations into three categories: laggards, followers, and leaders, to determine how they implement creative solutions. 22% of laggards, 56% of followers, and 22% of leaders identified creative solutions. 47% of leaders said they use generative AI tools to solve problems, compared with 30% of followers and 14% of laggards. Four in five business leaders also used AI tools to create visual content, with some leaders using Canva, Adobe, and Figma AI tools for minor editing. AI can help with creativity, but many brands steer clear of generative AI tools for fear of exploiting other brands' marketing.
