Komi, the Manchester-based digital media platform used by Idris Elba, has secured £5.5m investment from the Business Growth Fund (BGF).
The startup partners with celebrities to provide white-label content hubs and merchandise digital stores — Komi has previously worked with Elton John, Niall Horan and Matthew McConaughey.
In addition to customer-facing minisites, clients can launch email and text marketing campaigns and receive detailed fan database insights.
“We're proud to be building a rapidly growing, digital-first audience that is entertained by the best stories told by the best creators,” said Andrew Trotman, Comi founder and CEO.
Trotman said it took six years for the celebrity campaign to hit one billion views in one month, “and only a year to double that.”
Trotman added: “We're just getting started, and this new investment will enable us to accelerate our growth and entertain hundreds of millions of viewers around the world every day.”
“Comi has great potential to grow globally and has a proven track record of organically expanding its platform and reach,” said Reece Davenport, an investor at BGF.
“With disruptive products and an innovative approach to market, the team will be exploring mergers and acquisitions to continue on this trajectory.”
Komi completed a £9.2m Series A funding round in July 2023, led by RTP, Third Prime, Antler, E & Capital and Contour Ventures.
