Green House Sales and Marketing Agency began in the fall of 2022 when program founder Professor David Przybyla wanted to expand the range of experiences offered by his capstone class. In this class, students work on small projects for clients, providing real-world experience, but he wanted to expand on this concept. That's where Green House comes in. Green House is a full-service sales and marketing agency run by students and guided by experts in the field, helping students jumpstart their careers.
To find out what exactly that means, The Review spoke to Greenhouse's newly appointed director, Alec Gallego. Gallego, a UVU alumnus and former UVU consultant, explained what students can expect as interns.
“Our business model is to lose students,” Gallego said in an interview. He explains that students are not expected to stay forever, whether they graduate or move on to other opportunities, and students come to Greenhouse for a “unique and rewarding experience.” . There, you can expand on the skills taught in class and interact with real customers. From local businesses.
This is not just for business and marketing students. Gallego reveals that he tends to create strong applications, but he also hires students to help write his filmography and blog. This organization has close ties to classes within the university, where students work and earn class credit. These classes include MKTG 3170: Digital Advertising, MKTG 3650: Professional Selling, MKTG 3660: Digital Marketing, and MKTG 3685: Content Marketing.
In addition to these classes, students hired hourly by Green House are given small projects and “micro-training” to help them develop their skills as needed. During this period, students receive bi-weekly mentorship from industry experts and guide them on client projects. Gallego says these are often local “ma-pa shops,” but in some cases they do business with customers across state lines. Green House helps businesses grow or start their online presence by assisting with SEO services, social media, and a variety of other projects.
Mr. Gallego is happy to share what he has to offer his students and mentioned several times during the interview the skills and expectations he hopes to develop in his students. One such skill that students develop is leadership, and a role that students can assume is that of a project manager who leads other students on projects throughout the semester. Students can also fulfill the internship credit requirement for their degree.
“We were trying to build a boat while rowing on a river,” said Gallego, who was talking about the initial struggles of running the program. Green House took off in earnest by building an in-house program and supporting students throughout its establishment. But, as Gallego says, “Przy[byla] I really wanted this for my students. ” Since then, their reach has expanded, with him hosting 25 student employees and customers across Utah, and that number is expected to grow. Mr. Gallegos concluded the interview by thanking David Przybyla for making it possible, with a “wide invitation to students across the university.''
