In a joint effort to foster innovative growth for businesses in Katsina State, the National Information Technology Development Authority (NIITDA) and the Katsina State Enterprise Development Authority (KASEDA) recently undertook a capacity building and empowerment program for 50 people from the state. organized the program.
The program aims to equip participants with digital marketing skills and increase the efficiency and effectiveness of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) through the adoption of the latest digital technologies.
The three-day capacity building initiative focused on the implementation of digital technology implementation among MSMEs in Katsina State and aimed to ensure that businesses leverage relevant digital tools to achieve their objectives.
Speaking at the opening of the event in Katsina, the Deputy Governor, Mallam Farouk Lawal Jobe, stressed the importance of embracing innovation in today’s rapidly evolving digital environment. He commended the participants for their efforts in leveraging technology to drive business forward and urged them to make the most of the knowledge gained during the training.
NITDA Director-General Kashif Abdullahi underlined the importance of MSMEs in driving economic growth and underlined the agency's dedication to empowering MSMEs through strategic interventions and customized programs. He noted NIITDA's collaboration with the Office of the Vice President in participating in the National Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Clinic, demonstrating the agency's commitment to supporting MSMEs with IT knowledge and guidance.
In his speech, Abdullahi called for collective efforts to equip MSMEs with the digital literacy, skills and tools they need to thrive in the digital age. He stressed that embracing the digital frontier will facilitate ease of doing business and foster a more inclusive and resilient economy for all Nigerians.
Abdullahi acknowledged the federal government and the Katsina State government’s financial assistance to MSMEs, stressing that the program was NITDA’s response to the call to action initiated by the President and the state governor.
KASEDA Executive Director Hajiya Aisha Aminu Malmufasi said the training was an opportunity to explore and harness the power of digital innovation to strengthen small and medium-sized enterprises, which are vital to every developing economy. He highlighted the role of MSMEs in driving innovation, fostering entrepreneurship and creating employment opportunities, highlighting their significant contribution to economic growth and diversification.
Mr Malmufasi outlined the scope and modules of the capacity building program, focusing on practical strategies to help MSMEs effectively embrace and leverage digital technologies. The program, tagged NITDA Digital Empowerment for MSMEs (NDE4M) and themed “Leveraging digital technologies to improve the business of MSMEs”, is a program called Economic Reforms for Sustainable Inclusive Growth.
