Local agribusinessmen registered with the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (Fama) will be trained in digital marketing to improve their sales performance.
FAMA Secretary General Abdul Rashid Bahari said the organisation is committed to supporting the growth of its members in line with global trends.
“We are organising programmes like this to help Fama entrepreneurs move forward and be at par with successful businessmen in Asia.
“This new online marketing method is a growing trend among buyers in the country and is something that Fama businessmen should explore.”
“We hope that entrepreneurs can increase their income and customer reach,” he told Bernama at the opening ceremony of the Agriculture Marketing Masterclass Programme: TikTok Shop Edition in Kuala Lumpur.
Abdul Rashid said the Fama pilot programme in collaboration with TikTok Shop and City-Link Express would train agri-businessmen to sell their products more creatively.
The agency said it plans to hold similar training programs in the future.
“If this programme is successful and we receive good response from entrepreneurs, we plan to hold another programme dedicated to marketing through e-commerce,” he said.
Noor Azre Abdul Aziz, head of strategic partnerships at TikTok Shop, said the collaboration with Fama could help local agribusinesses expand their sales footprint and product quality at a national level.
“To date, we have supported over 1.3 million entrepreneurs, 98% of whom run small and medium-sized businesses.
“The support of TikTok Shops aims to boost the competitiveness of local entrepreneurs, raise awareness of their businesses and provide employment opportunities, especially in rural areas,” she added.
The program had 80 registered companies.
The training group was divided into two, with the second group including people with disabilities (PWDs).
Trendville Marketing entrepreneur Irwan Faireji Johari, 40, who is also disabled, said the Fama programme could help him expand his kropok and frozen food business.
“I still have a lot to learn, but I'm excited to learn because now you can buy everything online, from spices to soy sauce.”
“So we also need to learn how to improve our marketing and advertising content,” said Irwan Fairej.
