Instagram is trying out some new elements for carousel posts, now allowing creators to add text overlays to individual images within a carousel as well as reformat images within the display.
First, text overlays: some IG users can now add text to images within their carousels.
As you can see in this example posted by Candidas and Nas Wander, the text options within the Carousel Composer now allow you to add captions that are overlaid on your Carousel images, allowing for a variety of additional presentation options and considerations, especially for instructions, how-tos, etc.
This is a relatively simple yet interesting addition that opens up more creative options for your carousel posts.
This is also true.
As you can see in this example posted by social media expert Lindsey Gamble, you can now choose different display formats for the images in your carousel set.
There are three options to choose from:
- Original – the photo will be displayed in full size
- Portrait – the photo will be cropped to portrait/portrait orientation
- Square – the photo will be cropped to a square
As images are resized, they maintain their format within the carousel, providing even more ways to display different types of images within the display.
This opens up more opportunities for sharing different types of content and potentially enhances your creative options with carousel posts.
This is a popular option, and as Instagram experiments with more frames within carousel posts, it's clear they're trying to put more focus on carousels to keep people sharing vacation photos and other updates that follow this format.
It also benefits brands, as they can use their image collections to promote their products or services in different ways.
These new additions further strengthen this functionality and may make carousels a more interesting and worthy consideration.
