Build your career as an affiliate manager
Lee-Ann commented: “You're learning different things coming into this industry. You're learning to speak almost like a different language than affiliates speak. Building a career as a successful affiliate manager is… How about it? Especially as a female leader, because you're a senior manager in your company. What skill sets do you need to learn to move up once you're in the industry? To teach those who come after you? ?”
Valerie replies: “This is an interesting question because I think there were more men than women in this industry, especially six years ago. There are still more men than women, but six years ago there were fewer women than women. There was very little. Now it's growing more and more.”
Think about how to structure your program
Lee-Ann said: “When I spoke at SiGMA, I talked about how the team builds affiliate relationships. One of the things that was interesting to me was the fact that you like to manage your affiliate partners end-to-end. That's why, from the day they join our affiliate program to the day they become a supporting partner, they always remain under one affiliate account manager to maintain the continuity of the relationship. Did it happen? And why did you choose to run the program that way?”
Valerie explains:It's really interesting. At first, I think it started a long time ago, when the company was small, and there weren't that many sources and human resources. Having multiple staff for one manager means that when I started over six years ago, I was the only manager, so I think I filled everything myself. But I actually found it very productive and comfortable for my partner. Normally we try to leave our accounts to one manager, her. ”
Tactical tips for affiliate managers
LeeAnne asks. What advice can you give to affiliate managers looking to move up the ranks after you? I've learned as fast as I have and grown my career over the past six years, but I've been able to build my skill set and practice What do you recommend they do to get into management positions? Because we don't talk about that a lot. In fact, we don't coach affiliate account executives or juniors who come in to step up. So, what are three tips you can give? Your experience working in the industry could help someone else step up. ”
Valerie says:I think the first thing is to update you with all the gambling news about the industry. Learn about previously discussed terms like NGR, FTD, and more.
“Second, just be patient. Be patient, be courteous, and try to build a good relationship with the person who contacts you. It can be exhausting and exhausting at times. No, but you try to be professional and try to stay calm. It's the same way you call people who work on the phone and get frustrated or angry. So you try to be professional and stay calm. I try to leave it all alone. Stay away from work and always be polite.
“The third point I recommend is to build personal relationships. Attend different conferences and network. This is always about getting people to know you. That's very important. Not just our partners, but also the different magazines and the different operators.”
Lee-Ann and Valery mention how important it is to learn the terminology of your industry field. There are many guides out there, one example is shown below. here. Take your time to find the tools and resources that work best for you. Please note that this is about improving your own knowledge and efficiency, so the right resource for one person may be the wrong style for another.
