Saweetie shot to fame in 2018 with her “ICY GRL” freestyle, but at the time, music industry executives came up with some “lazy” marketing ideas to keep the buzz going.
talk to allure During the release of her latest single, “Richtivities,” the Bay Area native recalled some lackluster advice from early in her career.
“I was told I should be more creative with Instagram,” she said. “I was told that my voice was very boring. I was told that my rapping was too monotonous and that I needed more energy. I was told that I needed to share more of my life on the internet.”
She continued: That's not my marketing. And if that's what you really want to do, empower yourself through it. But it's not something that comes naturally to me. If you get caught or show up at a party, it's okay, it's cool. But I won't because you guys think I should. That's lazy marketing. ”
While there aren't any major changes to her marketing plans going forward, Saweetie remains true to her artistry above all else.
“Right now everything is like, 'Go viral, go viral, go viral,'” she added. “Okay, cool, spread the word. But if it's all about the numbers, what about the art and why we're here today?”
However, not everyone is a fan of her artistry.
Following the release of her new single last Friday (February 23), a fan responded to a post about 'Richtivities' with: 'I wish she was a model or Sam…'
In a tweet citing the above comment, she shared a clip from last month's “Immortal Freestyle” in which she raps.
When another fan posted, “Saweetie is so gorgeous she should be a model,” the California native simply replied, “No.”
Despite her endeavors in music, the 30-year-old rapper and singer has received a lot of praise for her fashion. Last year, she was honored by the Grammy Museum and had her nails displayed at the museum in recognition of her contributions to hip-hop aesthetics.
Last October, the hitmaker shared a clip of her with nail artist Temeka Jackson showing off her display items at a building in Los Angeles.
This work, which displays glittering nails, is accompanied by the following text: But a creative collaboration between Famous Nail artist Temeka Jackson and Bay Area rapper Saweetie has taken nails to surprising new heights. ”
