Jennifer Lopez reflected on her childhood in a candid moment in her new documentary, The Greatest Love Story Never Told.
The “Let's Get Loud” singer, who grew up in the Bronx with two brothers, claimed he didn't receive enough love from his parents.
“As a child, I was always looking for someone to make me feel loved,” she told viewers.
“I was the middle child, not the baby, not the firstborn…I get a little lost between everything,” said the “Hustlers” actress, 54, with her sisters Leslie, 56, and Linda, 52.
Lopez also talked about her parents, Guadalupe Rodriguez and David Lopez, who divorced in the '90s.
“I felt very neglected by my father. He always worked at night and then slept all day, and I felt like I didn't have enough of a connection with him,” she said. .
“My mother was a narcissistic, attention-seeking, party-obsessed person,” Lopez added.
The songwriter previously hinted at his delicate relationship with his mother in the 2022 Netflix documentary Halftime.
“My mother is a very complicated woman with a lot of baggage. She wanted us to be independent and not have to rely on men,” Lopez explained.
“She did what she had to do to survive, and that made her strong, but it also made her tough,” she continued, claiming, “She beat us.”
The mother-daughter duo also took a “break” from each other when Lopez refused to attend college against her mother's wishes.
“I wanted to try dancing full time…I started sleeping on the couch at the dance studio. I was homeless and I said, 'This is what I have to do,'” she said. I remembered.
Lopez currently has a good relationship with his parents, and even posted an Instagram post for David on Father's Day last year.
“Daddy, I love you,” she wrote, to which he replied, “Thank you sweetheart, I love you more.”
Elsewhere in the documentary, the “Selena” star recalled being in an abusive relationship.
“It's not fun to be pushed around and manhandled like that. I mean, I've never been in a relationship where I've been beaten up, thankfully,” she said. .

“But I did get manhandled and some other unpleasant things happened,” she clarified, choosing not to reveal her ex-boyfriend's name.

The “On the Floor” songstress married her on-again, off-again boyfriend Ben Affleck in Las Vegas in July 2022, before holding a second, extravagant ceremony in Georgia.
The wedding took place 20 years after the couple first got engaged in the early 2000s.
