Below is a lightly edited Q&A. Story Exchange 1,000+ Story Projects.
How is your business different from your peers?
It's reasonably priced. I know how difficult it is to lack guidance when starting a business. I want to be a co-pilot for people who have been in the same position as me. And that's exactly what I do – end the day at 2:30pm to take my girlfriend's daughter to the beach while mentioning 90's pop culture. I am living my dreams and want to help others do the same.
Tell us about your biggest success to date.
I've heard email marketers say that a 1% to 2% conversion rate is good, and that struck me. I couldn't believe that anyone would proclaim this a “good” rate. By comparison, my first course had a 100% conversion rate, resulting in 141 sales and $17,000. I've made it my mission to teach others how to increase sales through email. I'm also proud that he took 90 days off in a row last year.
What is your biggest challenge and how did you deal with it?
In June 2022, just as my business was growing exponentially, I suffered a traumatic brain injury. So I had to double down on my “why.” It's about creating a business that can survive without me engaging in it every moment of my life. I had to design a life that supported my health, my family, and my need to make money. I did as much minimal work as possible and found that for me, simplicity leads to scaling.
Have you ever experienced a significant personal situation that influenced your business decisions?
When I started my business, I had no choice but to succeed. Either I made the money or my mom's rent wasn't paid.
What is your biggest tip for other startup entrepreneurs?
Reinforce the one thing that “works” for you. In my case it was email.
How do you find inspiration on your darkest days?
I ask myself two questions. First, what if this was easy? So what if it was fun? Answering them brings me out of the darkness.
What is your go-to song to motivate you on a tough day?
“Pop” by NSYNC.
Who is your most important role model?
myself. Thanks to the business I built from scratch, I am able to support my mother, sister, and other loved ones. I am constantly looking at my past, present, and future selves and strive to be proud of each version. ◼
